VINCE’S FAMOUS CHEESESTEAKS HOSTING SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE TO HELP AREA STUDENTS

I can’t think of a better way to start my blogging journey than by announcing a terrific community event to benefit the students of the Allentown School District. I’m excited to share that Vince’s Famous Cheesesteaks, in partnership with the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley, is holding a school supply and backpack drive now through October 21. They are asking people interested in donating student items, such as school supplies, lunch boxes and backpacks, to visit their Downtown Allentown location at 806 Hamilton Street to add to the collection. The United Way will then get the items into the hands of the students in greatest need.

“Big retailers have just put all their back-to-school inventory on clearance,” Vince’s President Vince Cocca, Jr., says. “So it’s a great time to stock up, give back, and remember that students in need have those needs all year long.  As a local business, as a family business, we’ll do all we can to help.”

As a proud Allentown School District graduate, Cocca is happy that his restaurant is part of the new, thriving Downtown Allentown, and he is grateful for the opportunity to give back. I think that’s awesome. It is amazing to work in a community full of people like this, who are so committed to their city. We here at STRATA Flats are helping by bringing donations to the restaurant and by spreading the word, and we wish Vince’s and United Way much success with their drive. I know I will be in soon to drop off my donation…and order one of my favorite cheesesteaks. Really, it’s a win-win situation when you think about it.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR OUR TOYS FOR TOTS EVENT IN NOVEMBER

Last year, STRATA Flats held a very successful Toys for Tot drive, and we have decided to make it a yearly event to show our community spirit. I’ll have more details for you in the weeks ahead, here on this blog. I also plan to cover some really great topics based on what our residents ask us most about living downtown. I’ll be answering your most plaguing questions, like:

  • Where are the best pizzerias around here
  • When are the happiest of happy hours
  • Who has the cutest dog in the neighborhood
  • Why doesn’t the Phantoms mascot MeLVin wear pants on the ice? (Or ever?)

As you can see, I have my work cut out for me. Got suggestions for some other topics for me to cover? Leave them in the comments below. I’d love your input!
